Members of Bristol mosque head to Calais on refugee aid trip

Members of a Bristol Mosque are making the 232 mile journey to the Calais refugee camp known as “the jungle” to hand out aid.

 

Chairman of the Easton Jamia Mosque, Abdul Malik, 42, Farooq Siddique, 46, Sarwar Hussain, 40, Shazia Malik, 35, Manzoor Hussain, 49 and Ashraf Attari, 58, Abbid Hussain, 39, Dilbarah Wadud, 29, left Easton this morning at 6.30am.

 

Travelling in one Range Rover and two vans, the crew are taking 75 tents, over 100 sleeping bags, 47 gas stoves and food, clothing, shoes and sanitary equipment to the camp.

 

Mr Malik said: “Even though I’m feeling tired I feel excited about being able to help. I’m looking forward to sharing the items we have collected to fulfil the duty that has been placed on us.”
