A man who can help to build bridges

ABDUL MALIK is a genuine voice of reason and his appointment as chairman of Bristol’s biggest mosque is highly significant.

For here is a man, born in this country, who has worked for years to try to build bridges between the Muslim and the traditional British communities.

His trademarks are his openness, his honesty and his ability to appreciate both sides of any debate. And he has a history of genuine commitment to his community. The revival of St Mark’s Road is a testament to that.

Perhaps the most important thing he will do is to be a public face and a spokesman for his mosque and in turn for Muslim people across the city.
